City Lights is located in Sylva, North Carolina, a small Main Street town tucked between the Great Smokies and the Balsams, two mountain ranges in the highest part of the southern Appalachians. Our goal is to share the Appalachian region's literature with the world and the world of good books with our community. |

Founded by Sylva writer Gary Carden in February 1985, City Lights was then purchased by Joyce Moore in 1986. In 1993, Joyce paraded up Main Street accompanied by a pipe & drum band, and many friends and neighbors, to move the store to Dr. Morgan's former office building on the corner of Spring and East Jackson, one short block up the hill from Main Street. Joyce sold the bookstore to long-time employee Chris Wilcox in January 2010. | |
Crisp, unread books, whether they're old favorites or new publications, are fun, but we also have used books, maps, art, cards, gifts, and accessories for readers, all of which round out what we trust will be a delightful browsing experience.
