Popcorn Sutton Documentary: This Is The Last Sam Run of Likker I'll Ever Make
The Lazy Hiker Taproom and City Lights Bookstore have partnered for a film screening on Sunday, September 18th, at 6 p.m at the Lazy Hiker. Emmy award-winning documentary filmmaker Neal Hutcheson will present This is the Last Dam Run of Likker I'll Ever Make, an enduring cult classic with legendary Appalachian moonshiner Popcorn Sutton. Filmed in 2002, the documentary was originally only available from the moonshiner himself on VHS tapes. Twenty years later, the film has created Popcorn Sutton fans around the globe, inspired a popular reality TV show, and continues to be popular today. It is a peculiar piece of media that captured a moment of transition in Appalachian culture and turned a local character into a legend.
Preceding the screening, Neal will present his book, The Moonshiner Popcorn Sutton, at 1 p.m. at City Lights Bookstore. The book was the winner of the 2022 National Indie Excellence Award and The Independent Spirit Award from The Independent Publishers Book Awards, the largest unaffiliated book contest in the world.
