Anne Jobe & Christine Reed: Blood Sweat Tears

Local author Anne Jobe and Christine Reed visit City Lights Bookstore on June 22nd at 3:00pm to share BLOOD SWEAT TEARS, a short story collection from 25 women+ writers about the experience of being in a female body on trail. Stories range from hiking, backpacking, thruhiking, mountaineering and trailrunning. These are stories of challenge, beauty, and self-knowledge the likes of which can only be found in the adventures we seek outdoors. In the collection, her story, And So I Run, was inspired by and a reflection of how she approaches aging in a 50+ female body with curiosity and vitality by spending time in nature and nurturing body and mind as she learns to become a trail runner at 53-years old. Her story references Franklin, NC and the Naturalist Trail Run, and Shenandoah National Park. Christine is the editor of the book.

Anne is a trail runner and hiker who seeks peace in nature. She has backpacked over 400 miles on the Appalachian Trail. She holds an Ed.S in Educational Leadership (K-12) and served in the Huntsville (Alabama) City School District for 27 years. In addition to the outdoors, she is passionate about educating students, spending time with family, volunteering, reading, and traveling. She can be found on Instagram @Seeking_the_Sublime. For more information about BLOOD SWEAT TEARS, visit

Christine Reed is a long-distance backpacker and author of the memoir, ALONE IN WONDERLAND. She shares her personal journey from sedentary office worker to rugged outdoorswoman in hopes of inspiring others to see something bigger for themselves-- whatever that may be. But also to remind us that a good story is about sharing something real and unfiltered of ourselves and connecting with others. She's found in the outdoor community the first place that ever felt like home.
