Their Eyes Were Watching God discussion group

In this time of facing up to our country’s long history of racial injustice, many of us are struggling to educate ourselves in the work of racial healing in our own communities.  To provide a forum for this exploration, City Lights Bookstore in Sylva, NC, will host a Zoom discussion of Zora Neale Hurston’s 1937 classic, Their Eyes Were Watching God.  

Their Eyes Were Watching God is the book about which Alice Walker said, ‟There is no book more important to me than this one.” Time magazine included it on its list 2005 list of the 100 best English-language novels published since 1923.

To provide a forum for exploring our country’s long history of racial injustice and how we can each do our part in the work of racial healing, in the new year, City Lights Bookstore in Sylva, NC, will host a Zoom discussion of The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America's Great MigrationIsabel Wilkerson’s 2010 history of The Great Migration.  

Winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award,  The Warmth of Other Suns became a New York Times and national bestseller, garnering half a dozen juried prizes.
