In Jewels of the Southern Coast: Architectural Gems of Charleston, Savannah and Beyond, photographer and author Tim Barnwell showcases the spectacular historic architecture found in Charleston, South Carolina, Savannah, Georgia, and surrounding smaller coastal towns. This collection of over 130 elegant black and white photographs focuses on civic, religious, business, and residential structures. From the mass and weight of marble and stone construction to the intricate details carved in wood and sculpted in iron, these structures and spaces surpass the ordinary. They have stood the test of time, touchstones to the past and centers of life that provide strong foundations for the future. An Introduction by Robert Salvo details a brief history of the area, with an emphasis on architecture, providing readers with added context for these remarkable images.
