City Lights Bookstore is in Sylva, North Carolina, a small Main Street town tucked in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains. Our goal is to share the literature of the Southern Appalachian region with the world, and the world of books with our community.
Jackson County resident Josie Williams will be guest storyteller at a special children's storytime on Saturday, July 24th at 11:00 a.m. Williams is co-creator (with her sister-in law Kim Williams) of Shert: The Helping Hand Glove Puppet, a book-and-puppet combination for children.Williams says "Shert helps capture a child's attention through pretend and play." The name is actually an acronym standing for Safety, Helping, Encouraging, Relating, Teaching. The simple glove puppet is both toy and teaching tool. Williams will read from the book, Shert: Goes to the Park and introduce children to the puppet concept. For more information, please call City Lights at 586-9499.
