Going Home: A Discussion of Appalachian Literature with Gary Carden

07/09/2010 7:00 pm
07/09/2010 9:00 pm

Join Gary Carden for a workshop/discussion on Appalachian literature and culture on Friday, July 9th at 7:00 p.m. Going home is an important theme in many Appalachian authors' works, and that will serve as the focal point of the discussion. Featured books, each of them classics in their own right, will be Harriet Arnonw's The Dollmaker, Charles Frazier's Cold Mountain, and Lamb in His Bosom, by Caroline Miller.

Carden will discuss various ways of looking at Appalachian culture and what makes it special. Each of the novels he will touch on reflects those elements in different ways. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and share their own thoughts with the group.
