City Lights Bookstore is in Sylva, North Carolina, a small Main Street town tucked in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains. Our goal is to share the literature of the Southern Appalachian region with the world, and the world of books with our community.

Gilchrist-Young, a Jackson County resident and teacher at Swain County
High School, will discuss her short story “The Tender Branch” at City
Lights Bookstore on Monday, February 27th at 7 p.m. The reading and reception are co-sponsored by two area book clubs and open to the public.
On
November, 8th 2011, Gilchrist-Young received the first Norman Mailer
Writing Award for High School Teachers at a New York City banquet
attended by such celebrities as Bill Clinton and Keith Richards.
