Clemson English professor, Alex Kudera will join us Friday, May 6th a 7 p.m. to read from his recent novel Fight for Your Long Day. Fight for Your Long Day is a day-in-the-life satire that follows the eventful unraveling and misadventures of Cyrus Duffleman--"Duffy"-- a portly, down-and-out adjunct instructor who teaches at four urban universities, and then works the night shift. as a campus security guard. One of the themes of the book is the irony of being an overworked, overwrought and marginalized citizen in a once-wealthy and industrious country. Overeducated and under-appreciated, Duffy struggles just to get by, both financially and emotionally. Fight for Your Long Day is a manifesto for adjunct faculty everywhere, but most all workers will see some of their own struggles in Duffy's adventures. Kudera is a native Philadelphian (the city that serves as the setting for the novel) but now teaches literature and writing at Clemson University. Fight for Your Long Day is his first novel. Kudera will introduce readers to his book by reading selections from it and taking questions from the audience. An autographing will follow his remarks.
