Sylva -- Bethany Bradsher, author of Coaching Third: The Keith LeClair Story, will be at City Lights on Saturday, April 10th at 12:00 Noon to read from and autograph copies of the book. LeClair, a former WCU baseball player who went on to be head coach for the Catamounts from 1992 to 1997, succumbed to ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) in 2006. His inspiring story of faith is the subject of Bradsher’s book, which includes a forward by Keith’s wife, Lynn, and also 10 devtionals authored by Keith before his death. LeClair had left WCU to become head coach at ECU in 1997. When the diagnosis of a fatal disease came in 2001, LeClair found himself on a different path than the one that had led him to his first head coaching job at Western at the young age of 26. As Bradsher explains, LeClair's life after his initial diagnosis had less to do with coaching glory than with eternal perspective, and as LeClair's body deteriorated, she says, his faith in God strengthened. Bradsher's book tells this multifaceted story of Keith's life: baseball, family, faith, and illness. Bradsher, who is a sports journalist, has covered East Carolina University athletics for a decade. Coaching Third is her first book. During her program at City Lights, she will read selections from the book and take questions from the audience. A booksigning will follow her remarks.
