Events

   Dawn Gilchrist-Young, a Jackson County resident and teacher at Swain County High School, will discuss her short story “The Tender Branch”  at  City Lights Bookstore on Monday, February 27th at 7 p.m.  The reading and reception are co-sponsored by two area book clubs and open to the public.   On November, 8th 2011, Gilchrist-Young received the first Norman Mailer Writing Award for High School Teachers at a New York City banquet attended by such celebrities as Bill Clinton and Keith Richards.   Copies of the story are available at the Norman Mailer Center website and at City Lights Bookstore.
