Join us for a special mid-week event to celebrate the publication of Hal Herzog's new book, entitled Some We Love, Some We Hate, Some We Eat: Why It's So Hard to Think Straight About Animals. The event will feature a reading and question-and-answer session, followed by an autographing. Herzog, of Cullowhee, is a professor of psychology at WCU, and while this book draws on his scientific expertise, it is a aimed at the general reader. Published by HarperCollins, a major New York Publisher, the book has gotten rave reviews from major public and scientific figures already. Temple Grandin says, “Everybody who is interested in the ethics of our relationship between humans and animals should read this book." And Irene Pepperberg, author of the bestselling Alex & Me, says Herzog "deftly blends anecdote with scientific research to show how almost any moral or ethical position regarding our relationship with animals can lead to absurd consequences.” The publisher calls it a blending of Malcolm Gladwell, Michael Pollan, and Bill Bryson.  Hal Herzog has been investigating the complex psychology of our interactions with other species for more than two decades. He is particularly interested in how people negotiate real-world ethical dilemmas, and he has studied animal activists, cockfighters, veterinary students, animal researchers, and ex-vegetarians. An award-winning teacher and researcher, he has written more than 100 articles and book chapters.  For more information, or to reserve an autographed copy, please call us at 828-586-9499.
